The key to employee retention is engagment.  What is employee engagement? 

 

There are many definitions for employee engagement. So many, in fact, it’s easier to just describe it. An engaged employee is one that takes work home because they want to. They can’t help but think about how to improve results in the shower or the car. They volunteer suggestions, innovations and time. They want to be productive and help the organization achieve its goals. Most organizations have at least a few of these individuals, but mounting an engagement effort is not about a few.

Engagement directly improves productivity, retention, customer satisfaction and profitability, not to mention health and wellness and safety. Google it and you will find no shortage of studies.
